TIMELESS
These paintings were influenced by a journey to Arezzo, Italy in November 2011, where I saw for the first time Piero della Francesca's frescos in the Basilica of San Francesco. I stood entranced, for what seemed like hours, with tears in my eyes. His presence was still so very powerful in that intimate high place behind the altar, the choir of the basilica, where he has painted "the cycle of the true cross".
I am trying to achieve in my own paintings what is so apparent in each of these frescos - a dynamic balance between mechanical, man made objects and organic forms and to make a passionate story visible.
For all their apparent, signature serenity, Piero's paintings pulsate with life and passion. After 500 years these images still reach our hearts and minds, effortlessly.
They are timeless.
